SafetyCaps -- New, Safer Outlet Plugs

Since safety is a huge issue in my house, I was intrigued when I was contacted about a new style of outlet plug, called SafetyCaps. If you have been to the safety aisle of any baby store you will see that the variety of different styles of outlet plug are a bit on the slim side, and yet most of them have a similar design that can slide right on through.

Well, George from SafetyCaps; whose daughter choked on an outlet plug once after he removed it to use the vacuum, has thought of a new way to make outlet plugs safer, just in case those little hands get a hold of them. His inspiration came from his daughter's pacifier, and the two little ventilation holes. After doing some research George found the requirements for those holes in pacifiers and applied them to his SafetyCaps. The plugs measure 2 1/2" across allowing them to pass the SPTF, Small Parts Test Fixture, test utilized by the CPSC, United States Consumer Product Saftey Commission.

These nifty little safety plugs are Made in the USA, Vermont specifically and can be seen at hospitals and other locations all over the US; like the Ritz-Carlton and the Four Seasons. SafetyCaps says, "If they can't fit into the mouth, they can't choke on it. It's that simple." Sounds like an easy decision to make as a parent.

SafetyCaps are competively priced and come in packs of 12 for $3.29. When you go to the SafetyCaps website you will see the order information in the lower left corner of the home page where it says "On Sale Now", Buy 36 Caps, Get 12 FREE.

If you don't see them in your store, be sure to ask about SafetyCaps.

Most Moms at some point need to buy bottles for their babies unless they are one of the lucky ones that can breastfeed exclusively all the time, but the question is what do you buy when you finally decide you need some bottles?

Well, here are 3 of my favs. I like them all for different reasons, but "this is a great product" comes to mind when I see them.

Ohio's new booster law effective April 6, 2009

If you live in Ohio and have a child between the ages of 4 and 8 years old and you are not using a booster seat -- you need to re-evaluate things before you find out the hard way with fines ranging from $25 to $75 per occurrence. Governor Strickland signed a bill on January 8th, 2009 requiring that children under 8 years of age and under 4'9" or 57" must be restrained properly when riding in a motor vehicle. That means your child MUST ride restrained in any of these options: Booster - Backless or Convertible, Youth 5-point harness, Convertible Car seat, Infant Car seat.

Don't know where to start? Check out the seats on these sites: Britax - Frontier & Regent, SafeGuard - Go & Child Seat, Graco - Nautilus, and Sunshine Kids - Monterey. All of these manufacturers make seats large enough for older children. Still confused? Seek out a professional to help with the decision. My husband and I decided on 2 Britax Regents for our 3 year old and 5 year old.

Other states with the law already in place: Maine, West Virginia, Tennessee, Oregon, Washington, Wisconsin, Virginia, North Carolina, Missouri, Kansas, New Jersey, Delaware, Vermont, and Washington DC.
